This morning after going for a run and showering at the Rice and Beans campground (NICE, clean hot showers!), we hit the road, this time driving only 96 miles in 2 hours from San Ignacio to Bahia Concepcion, just beyond the town of Mulege. For the last few days we’ve been in high desert country, and today’s drive brought us back to sea level and to the east coast of the Baja Peninsula on the Sea of Cortez for the first time. About 1 ½ hours into the drive, we saw a sign reading “Cuesta del Infierno” (Grade to Hell) accompanied by warnings to use your engine to brake, and slow down for the dangerous curves. For those of you familiar with downtown Seattle, the next 2 ½ miles felt like driving down James Street in terms of the steep grade, but with constant winding curves and spectacular views of the aquamarine Sea of Cortez beyond – incredible!
