Visitors from Nashville

Back in January on the first day we bought Next To Me, we hired Captain Chris (of Captain Chris Yacht Services) to drive the boat, and us, from Stuart, Florida where we bought her to Fort Pierce where we planned to live for two months while we had some boat work done.

We arrived in Fort Pierce exhausted, having just driven 4,000 miles from Seattle to Stuart, with no food, bed sheets or ANYTHING on the boat. Captains Caldwell below.

Captain Chris and his co-Captain wife Alyse, who keep their boat at the same marina, quickly organized a docktail party among boaters at the marina, and Merwin and Crystal (below), who live in Nashville but keep their beautiful sailboat in Fort Pierce, attended. During the next few weeks until Merwin and Crystal had to return to Nashville, we shared fun meals, shopping and cocktail hour a number of times. A favorite was Archie’s for lunch, below.

They’ve followed our blog, so when they saw we were getting close to their home area, Crystal shot off an email to see if we could organize a get-together. Today they drove over 100 miles from Nashville to meet us here in Kentucky for the day. They offered to pick up groceries or wine for us, take us shopping in their car, or any other needed errands. SO nice!

Today we visited on the boat, swapped stories about our Looper journey, and their spring trip on their sailboat for a month in the Bahamas, and had lunch. After lunch we stopped at Patti’s, the famous pie place, and each ordered a piece of pie for later in the afternoon. Yum!

At the end of the day Merwin and Crystal headed back to Nashville. It was so great to see them, and we hope to meet again in Florida this winter.

We’ve been at Green Turtle Bay Marina or anchorages on nearby Kentucky Lake for 11 nights, a much-needed respite from our wild 8-day journey down the rivers from Chicago, and affording a wonderful time with 3 sets of visiting friends. Tomorrow we leave to begin a 450-mile journey up the Tennessee River to Chattanooga where we’ll be joined by Bob’s sister Lynn and her husband David. We hear the scenery is spectacular.

P.S. (Cathryn’s note to self, seeing pix from January: NEED a haircut!)

If you are going to the AGLCA Rendezvous, there's a great little beauty shop in Rogersville. Also a good barbershop in the mall if Bob needs a trim up ;-)
