We’ve heard on our Sirius radio and via email from friends and family that the weather in the States has been frightful. We’ve heard: minus thirteen in Boulder; 18 in Houston; an ice storm in Dallas, and minus 37 in Bozeman. Well, we’d like to report that here in Baja we’re enjoying mild weather in the 70’s, but that would be a lie!
This morning we heard it was 39 degrees in Loreto 12 miles to the north, and 44 in Puerto Escondido 2 miles to the south. The high today was only 58, and at 5pm it’s already back down to 50 degrees!
To make matters worse, we have steady winds of 25-30 mph, and for hours at a time it’s blown 35 mph or more; the peak reading we heard in the marina was 43 knots!
We moved off the beach this morning and back into the palm grove where we’re somewhat protected from the wind, but it’s still chilly. For those of you planning to visit us in Los Barrilos in the next couple of weeks, we’re happy to report that things are supposed get back to normal Monday.
So what do you do in Baja when it’s too cold and windy to sit on the beach? Doug, Jill, Debbie, Greg and the two of us went to Loreto to have lunch at a great restaurant, “Islas”, then the women got pedicures at a place nearby while the men got their vehicles washed by hand ($3.50) and went shopping for dinner ingredients at a nearby fishmonger’s in preparation for a dinner party tomorrow night.

I'd still take cold in Baja over cold in Virginia. May we all warm up soon.
