Yesterday’s border crossing went smoothly. Our 3 RVs approached together, and each was boarded by a separate team of two people. A few questions, a dog sniffing around, and we were sent on our way, as we had all walked across the border on foot to get our Tourist Visas stamped in advance on the Mexican side. One mile later, a police car pulled in behind Greg and Debbie and turned on his flashing blue lights. They pulled over while the rest of us waited a block ahead. Shortly Greg and Debbie caught up with us and announced over our hand-held radios they were stopped for failing to wear seat belts. Turns out their older rig is equipped with lap belts, not shoulder belts, so the policeman couldn’t see they were belted. He apologized and quickly sent them on their way when he realized the situation. What we thought was an inauspicious beginning to the trip turned out to be a total non-event.
The rest of the day went smoothly, and we arrived in San Quintin mid-afternoon. We decided to camp at El Pabellon, a place we’ve stayed once before and would not stay if we were alone, but as we’re traveling as 3 couples together, feel perfectly happy to stop and camp on the gorgeous, wide, white sand beach. We’re the only folks in the campground. This morning we awoke to calm, flat water making the Pacific seem aptly named, with no wind, so decided to stay another night. We while away the day reading books, walking or running the beach, buying a few vegetables and fruits, and checking email at the nearby internet café. Cocktail hour moves from one rig to another each night, and we part ways for dinner in our separate “rolling homes”. The weather is sunny and in the low 70s with no clouds in sight. Life is good.
Tomorrow we plan (we think) to head off to Catavina so won’t likely have internet for a couple more days. We’ll try to add some photos next time.
