Morning After

P1000108

Following our night “on the hook”,  we rose early to a beautiful sunrise, made more so by the accumulation of clouds that blew in overnight. Coffee on the sundeck, followed by a quick check on the internet of the weather for the day, revealed that winds would pick up beyond the level we’re eager to deal with during our first docking of this large boat.

So we pulled up the anchor and found the chain covered with heavy, sticky mud, not the sort of bottom we’re accustomed to in the Pacific Northwest. We’re glad our boat has an anchor wash on the foredeck so the chain can be rinsed down as it comes back aboard, not leaving a smelly mess in the anchor locker.

Bob  did the honors of bringing the boat back into our slip at the marina for the first time, while Cathryn handled the lines.  We did really well, and our confidence in handling Next to Me crept up one more tiny notch.  Oh . . . and the photo above is NOT our boat, just an example of what can happen if things get REALLY screwed up!  Hope your sense of humor is still intact, Mom.
